Loudon Farm Home.

Location: Loudon, TN

Status: Pre-construction

This new home is sited within a 200+ acre horse farm just outside of Knoxville, TN. The project is rich with meaning, starting with the home placement which was situated atop the wedding site for the homeowners. The land overlooks rolling pastures and grazing horses in the distance. Challenged by a desire to blend modern touches with contextual influence, we took inspiration from the oldest existing horse barn on the property to inspire the form of the main living areas. These spaces offer a gracious ceiling height with large windows providing natural light and sweeping views, which are topped off by a long cupola in the center of the room which floods the space with light throughout the day. This center mass is the anchor of the home, clad in a local Tennessee limestone to add texture, warmth, charm, and another nod to the history of this property.

Bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, and flex-rooms line either side of the central space, carefully placed for function, but curated to take full advantage of the beauty lurking all around the home. These spaces are wrapped in a contemporary vertical wood siding and punctured by vast black frame windows to add a modern touch. A separate three-car garage and guest suite boarder the front auto-court, stepping down in scale towards the front to comfortably greet arrivals as they come in off the winding wooded drive. The rear of the home is centered by an expansive screened-in porch that opens onto a patio with sweeping views of the horse pastures beyond. To it’s right, the corner windows of the master suite capitalize on this setting as the land gently falls away.
